Birthday Cake

It was iWoz‘s birthday a few months back and I wanted to bake a cake. He, however does not give two hoots for birthdays or cakes. ‘Just like any other day.’ he shrugs and that I do not accept. Birthdays are meant to be really special. You have to wear a brand new dress, some one has to show up with special gifts and of course there has to be cake! To make up for his irksome attitude I go overboard and all my near and dear ones are ‘made-to-feel-special’ on their birthdays. Yes, even those who do not want to feel special. A while back, I came up with a ‘baked-from-scratch-whipped-cream-frosting-chocolate-cake’ for ZK. I even piped blue roses on it.image
Go Ahead. You are allowed to laugh at my terrible piping skills.
But, iWoz’s Birthday took my cake baking and decorating skills to a whole new level. For one, I had to bake a cake and decorate it without iWoz knowing about it. A watsapp group was created with me, ZK, Jess(ZK’s better half) and V (iWoz’s junior at work) for this secret mission. I wanted to bake an Iron Man cake(iWoz is a Tony Stark fan). For inspiration, I did the obvious and typed ‘iron man cake’ in Google and hit search.
I was shattered blown away by the sheer creativity of ‘Iron Man cake’ baking people out there.
There were a gazillion options available in the net and I had thought ‘I am going to bake the first Iron Man cake ever.’ It is official now. I live in a cave.
Although the googling experience was traumatic enlightening, I was bent upon making a serious dent in the ‘Iron Man cake universe’ and finally I was ready with my plan. This is what I came up with after 5 hours of running around like a headless chicken.

When the clock struck 12, my team appeared at the door with the cake. It was fun and iWoz loved it. The iron man chocolate mask nearly stole the show but for our darling Pappali appearing with this adorable t-shirt on.
We were recently rechristened as Ambu and jiji by her.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank my team (ZK, Jess and V )for doing nothing other than sending motivational quotes in Watsapp. I did feel that one quote (“The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago . The second best time is now.”??) was a bit off the mark considering the occasion. V, who is slightly overbuilt promised me to kidnap iWoz, tie him up in a sack and leave him in the middle of the desert for maintaining the surprise which thankfully was not needed. I managed it by begging our watchman to hide the cake when iWoz at home.

Has anyone noticed my absence? I really hope so.
Judging by the teeny-weeny hits I get, I hope at least one or two of you have genuinely missed me. Just the very thought of you coming to this little space anticipating my posts makes me humble.*wink wink*
I can explain my absence. I had gone to this adventure trip in the middle of the desert and got lost (very me!). I was about to give up after days of being without food and water but the thought of this little space gave me strength. I fought dehydration, fatigue, dragons, trolls and I am finally back!
In other words I was plain lazy.
I would procrastinate to the point that it was beyond imagination.

Here’s a glimpse of my thought process –
‘Have to post today….what about the images…ok I will post without images…hell..i am so inconsistent…how do people do it?….should I make chicken curry for dinner….have to go for a movie…I am so busy…need to take a vacation…I hate my job…then I will post a lot of stuff on my blog…actually there is nothing to hate about my job….

After months without a single post –
…I will post without images….have to post something…I like blogging….why does my hair look so frizzy?..have to bake something today….i have to post…maybe after a quick bath…I am so busy nowadays….how do people do it?….

Then I would read books that talk about life being Maya, an illusion and then think what is the point?

What is the point? Really?

*Reposting an image from a previous post. Ha ha!

Boredom + Pushy Lamp Shade = Makeover

Me: I am bored.
Lamp Shade: Yeah right. *rolls eyes*
Me: Now there was no need to be sarcastic. I really am bored. I would love to paint but feeling too lazy to get my painting supplies, prepare the canvas and begin.
Lamp Shade: Well.. The paint you need is right before you. *points at the wall paint left after iWoz did our walls*
My turn to roll eyes.
Me: Ok .. And what about the canvas?
Lamp Shade: Well*Shrugs*
Me: Really?
Lampshade: It’s time you gave me a makeover.
The Result?

Of weird names

iWoz has this habit of naming everything and everyone. I did tell you how I became UR, did not I?. Our daily conversations are dotted with these words and it is difficult for a listener to understand what we speak. It happens spontaneously and he never thinks about it. However, I admit, I like it. We have words for anything and everything . Gives a personal touch. His brand new computer or server or whatever it is called (looks like a mini fridge to me) is ‘choma’s Superbwoy’. He is very particular about pronouncing it in ‘Optimus Prime’ kind of voice with emphasis on ‘bwoy’. His niece, who has a pretty decent name by the way is ‘Cheerani Borani Marconi Sparspashti BLIM BLIM BLIM’. The ‘Blim Blim Blim’ got into her nerves and she simply refused to acknowledge once she reached the age where realization struck that she could protest. Friends from college are still known by the names he gave them. I hardly know the real name of ‘thankappan’, ‘popri’ and did I mention that for him Paulo Coelho is ‘polo colo’? Maybe, born out of a need for convenience in pronouncing difficult words.
And it is rubbing off into other people as well. Why else would ZK call his daughter ‘Sheembali Pappali Alli’??

Oil on Canvas.
The reference used for this painting was an old greeting card sent to my mother by her dear friend.
It lies somewhere in a stash of paintings in my room at my parents place. I have to collect it the next time I visit and maybe, frame and hang it on my living room wall.

This month we celebrated Independence day of India. Are we really free?
